students learn include the various types of networks, various types of
networking products, the differecences on how they work, how to design
and troubleshoot networks, network security, and other. At first
students work on basic network design, components, network topologies,
and basic IP addressing (including subnet masks). Lab work includes
making and testing network cables, using line testers, building two to
five computer networks, and using various network diagnostic tools.

This training is useful to prepare for CompTIA’s
Network+ certification. Network+ is a merchant neutral certification

What Are The Best Home Schooling Programs?

August 9th, 2007

Most home schooling programs are fully comprehensive and provide everything you would need for your child’s complete k-12 education. However, you should keep in mind that many experienced home schoolers do not stick to just one program. They pick and choose from what they believe are best of each of the various programs. I cover in greater detail how people mix and match in my home schooling newsletter.

There are many popular and respected home schooling programs. The ones I’ll cover briefly here are Saxon, Center for Learning and Curriculum Associates.

Perhaps one of the more well-known home schooling programs comes from Saxon. Saxon is a part of Harcourt Achieve, a publisher that provides a variety of educational materials across various subjects. Saxon focuses on math, phonics and early learning. Many home schoolers like Saxon’s math texts. Math is an area that children will need expert instruction in. If the parents don’t have a math background, Saxon may be the right math program for your child.

The Center for Learning is another of the great home schooling programs. They provide curriculum materials to public, private and parochial schools. They are also a favorite choice of home schoolers. Just as Saxon provides good math texts, the Center for Learning provides materials on English, Language Arts, Drama and Social Studies. They provide religious materials.

Finally, another favorite among the various home schooling programs is Curriculum Associates. Their materials focus on Reading, Language Arts and Math. They also have materials on test preparation, study skills and assessment.

As I mentioned, most parents will not stick to any one of the home schooling programs. They will choose Reading from this publisher and Math from that one. They often find what they like best through experimentation or from what their friends recommend.

So, which of the home schooling programs do you choose? If it were me, I would contact your State’s Department of Education Home School contact person. This individual will know what programs with which students are having the most success.

Learning Tools For Kids - Learning Tool That Talks Back To Kids

August 9th, 2007

Do you remember being a kid and having to lug around heavy books?
Throwing books into a backpack to take to Grandma’s or on a trip
because mom insisted that you read on the ride there? Books can be
cumbersome, heavy and awkward to carry. Audio books have all the
adventure but none of the negative weight of a hard copy book. Audio
books also have other neat benefits that children will love. That’s
what makes them such a cool learning tool for kids; kids will use them!

One benefit is that audio books make it easier for kids to remember
details
about a book because of having heard the text and not just
having had read it.

Another benefit is that audio books are entertaining. Kids will stick with it longer if they find learning fun.

Children who have reading difficulties can listen and follow along
in the hard copy book so that they can hear how a word is pronounced
that they may have been struggling with.

Audio books
also save storage space and are perfect for smaller
rooms, or apartment living, or for bringing along on trips. Because
they are easier to store, kids can use more of them, therefore learning
more.

Kids will spend more time listening to audio books because they can
listen as they do other things. They can be playing or just messing
around in their room while they are listening to the audio book. They
will spend more time with the book.

Kids love to listen to stories
. They may be having so much fun, that they may not even realize they are learning.

When it comes to learning a new language or hearing the
pronunciation
of difficult words; hearing them instead of reading the
word in print helps them to understand the correct sound of the word
the first time. When children read a printed word by themselves, they
can pronounce incorrectly a word and not even know it. When they listen
to the word being pronounced correctly they cannot make a mistake.

Most Children Audio Books not only have someone talking that kids can listen
and relate to, there are usually sound affects that bring the book to
life. The book is more interesting as an audio book and will hold the
child’s attention longer.

Children Audio Books not only teach children how to pronounce words but they
help children to learn how to use words in proper sentence structure.
They also learn how to use expression and inflection in dialog, and how
words flow naturally in speech patterns.

Some children find certain books more interesting in audio book
format because of the narrative voice, background sounds, and other
affects that can bring characters to life more so than with the written
word alone.

Just the vocals of the audio book and the personal flavor that these
books give to kids can hold their interest and invites them to spend
time with the book. Some kids find reading a hard copy book boring and
a required task. Most children find audio books more like play and
something they look forward to. Part of the excitement that an audio
book holds for kids is that having one is like having a companion that
talks to them. A learning tool that talks back to them.

Learning a New Skill Using An Audio Book

August 9th, 2007

An audio book is simply a book produced in a format
that is audible. Audio books started in the Spanish language and soon
blossomed into a multi-linguistic media. Many individuals and
corporations use them for many reasons.

The
very first audio book was produced in 1975 as a collection of short
stories. The author was David Sánchez Juliao and the audio book was in
Spanish. Since then, audio books have been used to teach children to
read, as a method for the blind to have access to books, and as a
learning format for everything from learning a foreign language, guitar
lessons, motivational seminars, and cooking lessons. The self-help
industry utilizes audio books to tape workshops, conferences and
basically uses them as a learning tool.

Audio books have become so popular as a learning tool,
because of the portability and relative low cost. In this fast-paced
society, audio books have allowed us to multi-task while reading a book
or learning a new skill. The ability to hear how words are pronounced
can make all the difference when it comes to learning a language
successfully.

Audio books have features that are valuable when learning a new skill.
A feature such as the ability to replay a segment to reinforce what has
been said. Another would be having the ability to listen to an
unabridged version (word for word readings from a book), while
following along in the actual hardcopy of the same book. Audio books
make note taking easy, because of the ability to replay a section, as
many times as necessary in order to get all the notes you need.

Audio
books can be in CD, cassette or downloadable format. Giving a choice of
formats allows the consumer to hear a book in the format best suited to
their lifestyle. Audio books are very versatile so they fit just about
anyone’s need. Audio books are downloadable to your computer or MP3
player, or you can burn them to CDs. You can purchase them in
bookstores or borrow them from your local library. You can find free
audio books on numerous Websites or buy them from Audio book clubs.
Audio books can be found alongside video rentals as consumers find they
compliment each other and are likely to buy them at the same time. You
can also purchase audio books on online store like http://spokenalliance.com

Parents have found that taking audio books along on long commutes can entertain the little ones and allow everyone to have a more peaceful drive. Many workers make good use of the daily commute by listening to self-improvement audio books, or pop in a audio book to catch up on their reading or to learn a language. Now the drive to and from work can be a productive time.

Corporations use business audio books as learning tools for employees,
to encourage staff in pursuit of higher learning. There are many
inspirational speakers on audio book. Business topics cover managing,
motivating employees, closing sales, how to conduct successful
negotiations and so much more.

The audio books have grown into a
billion dollar industry because of their portability, and use as a
learning tool and ability to make reading fun. The audio book appeals
to all ages and every family member from the youngest who needs to
learn to read, a convenient way for mom to keep up with her book club
members, a cool way for a teenager to “hear” his English assignment or
dad to motivate himself before a big power meeting.

Johnny Lee is a books lover. He is the owner of a downloadable audio books online store at http://spokenalliance.com selling audiobooks from world leading publishers. He also owns a discount audio books coupon site at http://www.audiobookscoupon.com that provide regular audio books discount coupon for purchase of audio books.
