Qualifications for Christian Counseling

The number one qualification for Christian counseling is that the Lord has called you to that profession. If you feel He has then you can look for courses in your area or online. Do research on the school or college or look for references or testimonials from former students. If someone is seeking counseling they will often want to be sure that the counselor is well qualified and educated.

Is Christian Counseling God Directed?

If you are directed by God to earn a Christian education degree He will fill you with a love and desire to help others. These Christian counseling degrees and certifications will add validity to your calling. In counseling sessions God will direct you to the appropriate biblical references with which you can advise people. The Bible should always be the basis of your counseling.

Earning the Degree

The Bible has many examples of great men anointed to counsel and lead others. It also demonstrates the results of those who seek counsel from the ungodly. In Leviticus Moses anoints Aaron and his sons.

Lev 8:1 - 4 The LORD said to Moses, “Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread; and assemble all the congregation at the door of the tent of meeting.” And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and the congregation was assembled at the door of the tent of meeting. (RSV)

As in Leviticus, when earning a Christian counseling degree you will receive your certificate or degree from qualified men who have also been ordained. Upon graduation, you will be “anointed” so to speak) certified by your professors that they believe, and will acknowledge this before other students, faculty members and family, that you are qualified and led by God into the counseling profession.

Christian counseling centers are
such a valuable tool to our community. There are so many areas in life where
the counsel of a professional is necessary. As a Christian we are finding it
harder and harder to live in this the world at a time when we are constantly being
bombarding with many temptations and negative influences.  We feel we are at war with this world. A lot

In the Bible the book of Proverbs
tells us in chapter 24 verses 5 & 6 it says 
“A wise man has great power, and a
man of knowledge increases strength; for waging war you need guidance, and for
victory many advisers.”  We are
advised in God’s word to seek counsel. 
It goes on to say in verse 7 “Wisdom
is too high for a fool.”  We are
foolish not to.

There are those who place too
much value on the accumulation of knowledge, but Paul pointed out to the
Colossians in chapter one verses 9 – 14 that knowledge in itself is empty.  To be worth anything, it must lead to a
changed life and right living.   Paul
prayed for the Colossians “asking God to
fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and
understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the
Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing
in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His
glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully
giving thanks to the Father…”

live a “life worthy”, “bearing fruit,” to be “strengthened” and to have endurance,
